Nutrition Nugget-
Alcohol Consumption and the Paleo Diet.
Where does it fit in?
- Wine - 2 4 oz glasses
- Beer - 1 12 oz serving
- Spirits - 4 oz (which is more than is recommended by anyone else, Paleo or not)
Now the Whole 9 Lifers point to the fact that alcohol is toxic to the liver, toxic to your neurological system, inhibits one's ability to make sound decisions (we've all witnessed this before, eh?) and is full of empty calories. Not too many positives on that list, hmmm?
Soooo, they suggest putting the brakes on drinking- especially if you're trying to rewire your systems. Then once you've cleaned up your diet, serious moderation is in order if at all.
Melissa made a good point at the seminar saying that if you're seriously telling yourself that you're drinking for health reasons, you're probably lying. That made me laugh. I don't know anyone who drinks regularly who REALLY does it because of the heart benefits. They do it to unwind after work or to relax if feeling stressed about something or because they LOVE IT or because it's an engrained habit.
You can still get all the health benefits of drinking wine (and more) from eating real veggies and fruit, ya know. :)
Since I've never been a drinker (never have liked the taste of any of it...kind of handy), I don't understand the appeal, but if this is a downfall of yours, talk to Husband Rich. He will empathize with you.
I can say that once Paleo challengers got serious about limiting alcohol consumption, it made a significant difference in body composition AND produced better sleep habits.
Think steps here if you're new to Paleo. Start with your meats and veggies, nuts and seeds/olives/avocado/coconut, and some fruit as your basis and then tweak as you progress.
The husband broiled grass-fed bison last night and raved about his cooking venture.
He LOVED it! The Whole Foods lady gave him specific cooking instructions and emphasized keeping it on the rare side. It's pretty darn rare in my book.
(This picture is too "real" for me...yee gads...Very "muscly," isn't it?!)
Anyhooo- tasty bites according to Rich!
For those who have been eating Paleo for a while, here is a survey you might consider taking (it doesn't take long at all). Robb Wolf along with "EveryDay Paleo" and "The Clothes Make the Girl" are all encouraging participation as well. Here's the blurb from the site:
The purpose of this survey is to collect information about paleo diet community members, including demographic information, medical conditions, dietary preferences, and physical activity.
Why should you participate?
The resulting data will be invaluable in terms of understanding the nature of the paleo movement. It will be provided to other bloggers and researchers with the goal of providing a clearer picture of how the paleo diet has affected the lives of its adherents. The survey itself is relatively short and should only take a couple of minutes to complete.
As well, several incentives for completion of the survey have been provided, and will be explained further at the end of the survey. These include a coupon code for Paleo Treats products and the opportunity to win one of several giveaway Amazon.com gift cards.

Clips from Saturday!
A variety was offered up for all and what a gorgeous day!
Strategy was key along with time management.
Here's how things shook out:
The 9:30 was once again filled with testosterone (Mr. Rogers had to bolt pre-pic)- six CFKW men who felt I should feel honored to be in the presence of such greatness on a Saturday morning.
Puh-lease.

Last but not least!
A friend of Uncle Bill's doctored a photo of the sign at Bill's church where he ministers.
A must share. :)

I just want to be a foot soldier in KStar's "Shoulder Revolution." I love how his daughter is playing in tthat cardboard box through the whole video!
